Dr. Ing. Thomas Budiarto, S.T., M.T.

Thomas Budiarto is an expert in the modeling and management of energy systems. He holds a Doctoral Degree in Energy and Process Engineering from Technische Universität Berlin, where he successfully defended his dissertation on process dynamics in membrane-electrolyte assemblies of chloralkali electrolyzers. With extensive experience spanning sustainability, energy management, and process engineering, he actively contributes to high-impact projects across academia, industry, and the government sector.

Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Engineering Physics Department and a Researcher at the Energy Management Laboratory, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). His comprehensive teaching portfolio includes Data Literacy & Artificial Intelligence, Asset Management & Maintenance, Reliability of Energy Systems, Energy Management Systems, Hybrid Energy Systems, Project Management, SCADA Systems, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage Systems, and Electrical Circuits.

He leads and contributes to advanced research initiatives, particularly focusing on digital twin technologies for battery energy storage systems, Generative AI integration for campus energy efficiency, smart battery management systems (BMS), and EV charging management architectures. As a seasoned consultant, he has delivered insights for major institutions, including mapping energy storage value chain capabilities, conducting business studies for integrated gas and LNG, developing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission methods and emission management for various industries.

A frequent speaker at academic and industrial forums, he has shared his expertise on topics ranging from the techno-economic perspectives of green hydrogen to net-zero carbon roadmaps and the impacts of global warming on industrial sustainability. His research is widely published in international conferences and high-impact journals, including IEEE Xplore and Elsevier.

Drawing from his extensive background as a professional energy auditor, industrial energy manager, and technology innovator, he continuously drives sustainable energy solutions forward. His work seamlessly bridges research, policy, and industrial application, significantly contributing to Indonesia’s green energy transition.
